During my absence over the past week I was fortunate enough to be soaking up the sun on my first ever cruise; visiting Corfu, Santorini, Mykonos, Izmir and Venice. On reflection, I wouldn't particularly say that cruises are my cup of tea; albeit I definitely enjoyed visiting the various places that we stopped off at. My favourite place of the five was by far Venice: a salad mix of musical culture, fine art, stunning architecture, impeccable style and historical relevance. We stayed at the beautiful Palazzo Paruta on the final night of the holiday, just a short walk away from Piazza San Marco (St Mark's Square) where tourists flocked in their hundreds to observe the infamous St Mark's Basilica and the Clock Tower (Torre dell'Orologio). I specifically enjoyed sightseeing via gondola (something which you must partake in on a visit to Venice); visiting the Salvador Dali exhibition to witness a variety of his pieces from a firsthand perspective; and gorging on gelato and macaroons in a traditional Italian patisserie. I also discovered a small vintage shop which was hidden away down a narrow side street- an Aladdin's cave of vintage treasures and trinkets. Unfortunately the shop was closing up at the time of my visit, so I was unable to purchase anything (I expect I'd have taken great pride in being able to say "I got this from a vintage shop in Venice.") Oh well, I suppose I was just unlucky. On the other hand, I was privileged enough to have the amazing experience of observing several dolphins as they followed our ship- something which I've always wanted to do since being a small child when I learnt about their existence.
Luckily I've broken up from school for the summer, so I look forward to posting much more frequently- something which recently I've unfortunately found difficult to do. I hope you enjoyed perusing my photos from the trip; and I hope that you're all making the most of your summer and having a lovely time, whether you're staying at home or travelling to another corner of the globe.
Hugs and kisses, Sarah xo
