A Penchant For Pendants: My Necklace Collection

l-r: Urban Outfitters, eBay, eBay, thrifted, thrifted, thrifted, thrifted, thrifted, Primark, Topshop

Recently I seem to have developed a bit of an infatuation for necklaces, particularly of the bohemian sort. As a result, I thought I'd share with you the ones from my collection I wear most on a regular basis. Like a magpie to glitter I can't get enough of pendants with a celestial or gemstone theme, especially when layered over a graphic tee to make an outfit look as though more effort went into it. There's something about necklaces that can pull an entire outfit together, more so than any other item of jewellery in my opinion. In this field I definitely adopt a 'more is more' policy, violating the popular belief that we should remove one accessory before stepping foot outside. I'm not advising you leave the house laden in garish gold chains, resembling an extra from a rap video, but I love the look of numerous necklaces of different lengths with little pendants and dainty chains paired together. Besides, whoever came up with the pointless 'less is more' rule was evidently referring to fake tan alone.

Velveteen Witch

Shirt: thrifted
Necklaces: geology museum (could I sound any geekier?), Urban Outfitters

Hello internet chums! I'm afraid this post will be a relatively brief one, however I couldn't resist showing off my new thrifted shirt. I mean just look at it! It reminds me of something Nancy from The Craft would have worn, and as if that hadn't already won me over, the subtle psychedelic print gives it some additional brownie points. Velvet is one of my all-time favourite fabrics, especially during the winter months when I'm practically laden in it from head-to-toe. Unfortunately in a recent desperate attempt to earn some extra pennies, I resorted to selling a few of my velvet garments and alas lost them to eBay. As a result I'm now on the lookout for more pieces to build up my collection once again- after all, who said you can have too much velvet?!

Crazy About Knitwear

Crazy About Knitwear

With Autumn looming I've been drawing my attention to knitwear, and although my shopaholic tendencies compel me to want to purchase almost everything, I thought I'd narrow my lust list down in order to share a few pieces with you. I've only purchased from Romwe once; however earlier today I found myself window shopping on their website and a few items caught my eye. If you can't already tell, I'm slightly obsessed with daisy print at the moment. I've also been very impressed with New Look's latest collection, which features lashings of textures, subdued prints and black, appealing to my grungier winter self. Resisting the urge to buy all of these items is proving incredibly difficult, and unfortunately I don't think doing so would be very forgiving on my bank balance. I apologise in advance if I have encouraged you to do some damage to your wallet!

Jumper: Internacionale
Necklaces: Urban Outfitters, stone museum

I rarely shop in Internacionale, but on a recent lunch break at college my friend and I decided to pop in to have a browse. I was instantly drawn to this jumper, having longed for one of the JW Anderson x Topshop jumpers (you know the ones!) that burst onto the fashion scene some time last year. Unfortunately I never managed to get my paws on one so I thought I'd nab this dupe while I could, and the 30% student discount hardly deterred me from doing so. It's one of the softest items of clothing I've owned in a long time, and it's difficult to resist the urge to continually stroke myself once I have it on (although I'm certain I'd be on the receiving end of some peculiar glances if I did so). Plus, it's highly in keeping with the current season, and if you are as obsessive about Halloween as I am then I'm sure you'd understand my justification of this purchase.

Mesh tee: thrifted
Jacket: H&M
Belt: vintage
Socks: Primark
Shoes: thrifted

The lovely people over at Karma Clothing were kind enough to send me this dress to review for you all. With AW cropping up it's time to dust off the tartan that we moved to the back of our wardrobes at the end of last winter, as tartan always seems to be a reoccurring trend for the cooler months. Karma Clothing also have numerous other tartan printed pieces on sale, such as this skater skirt and this pinafore which I'm swooning over, so their site is definitely worth checking out (plus you receive 10% off your first purchase. If that isn't persuading enough then I don't know what is!) I chose this particular dress because of my current obsession with cut-out shoulders and strapless dresses and tops. I think this feature gives some edge to an item of clothing and in my opinion any form of shoulder exposure is incredibly flattering (and less daunting to pull off in comparison to a bare midriff!). Tartan is definitely one of my favourite prints for Autumn, particularly with the grungy vibe it exudes, so each year when this season rolls back around I make sure I stock up on the print. I especially love how it looks with leather or denim, or layered with a mesh tshirt in this case. My only fault of the dress is its length because it hit me just above the knee, which looked slightly garish due to the print being so "in your face", but it was nothing a little folding and pinning around the waist couldn't fix! If you haven't yet had a look at Karma Clothing then I recommend you do so: they have some lovely new pieces in and at very affordable prices too!

Brag Vintage Review & OOTD

Jacket: vintage c/o Brag Vintage
Top: Primark
Skirt: American Apparel
Socks: Primark
Shoes: Office
Necklace: thrifted
Watch: Casio
Necklace: thrifted

This vintage Levis jacket from Brag Vintage is one of the most recent additions to my wardrobe. I'm a huge fan of the oversized look, especially when it comes to jackets, so this one is ideal in my eyes. With Autumn looming around the corner, I plan on wearing this jacket rather frequently and using it as a layering device to keep me nice and snug when venturing out into the cold. Denim jackets will never look outdated, and in my opinion are an essential for every single wardrobe. I particularly love vintage denim jackets because of their worn-in look which gives them a few quirks and a sort of uniqueness. As if this ever-growing list of reasons to love denim jackets wasn't long enough (how many times could I say "denim jackets" in one paragraph? Denim jackets denim jackets denim jackets), they can be thrown on with more or less any outfit and look amazing.

If you're looking for a denim jacket, or just have a penchant for vintage clothing, then I highly urge you to take a look at Brag Vintage. They have an incredibly vast selection of clothing on sale and for extremely reasonable prices too! As I mentioned in a previous post, I think it's very important that we try to support smaller independent businesses whenever we can, and with an increasingly large number of online vintage shops cropping up I imagine there's lots of competition. Brag's site is simple to navigate, split into two sections for men and women, and then numerous subsections for different categories of clothing. I selected this specific jacket from the men's section as I prefer a less fitted look; however they also had some very beautiful jackets in the women's section as well. Brag also have detailed descriptions of every single piece on their website and several clear photos of each item, in addition to incredibly swift delivery. There isn't a single aspect of their site that I can fault!

On another note, I seem to have done a lot since my previous post, including visiting Scotland, starting college, and getting my helix pierced (you may already know about my recent activities if you follow me on Instagram). Now that I've started college it means that I no longer have to sport a hideous school uniform, which will hopefully result in more blog posts! Oh, and keep your eyes peeled for a Scotland photo diary coming soon!

August Wishlist

August Wishlist

Motel skater skirt dress / The Ragged Priest black top / H&M skirt/ Topshop skirt / ASOS pumps/ Topshop necklace

Much to my dissatisfaction, temperatures in England have been falling recently and consequently I've been eyeing up a few items in preparation for autumn (typing that just made me shudder slightly). During the colder periods of the year my style tends to lean more towards a grungier aesthetic, whereas in the summer I opt for a more bohemian look. This is definitely reflected in this month's wishlist consisting of mostly black pieces, with smatterings of tartan, leather and velvet: my go-to fabrics during the winter. On a visit to Topshop last week I tried on the leather skirt and Ragged Priest jumper shown above and instantly fell in love with the combination, which looked rather modern-witch-esque. At the moment I'm developing a bit of a penchant for cut-out detailing; however considering this jumper cost £45 I couldn't justify spending so much on such a simple item of clothing. If you know of any good dupes please let me know in the comments below! The other day I noticed a blue version in Primark in the sale, although I couldn't find it in black so I assumed it either didn't exist or had sold out.

On a separate note, earlier today I changed the appearance of my blog slightly and also added a blogroll. I'd love to hear your honest opinion on it, because I think I'm now suffering from "I've been staring at something for too long and can't decide whether or not it looks good" syndrome. Did I overdo it on the swirly font? Too much mint?

Smock Happy

Dress: Asos
Bag: Urban Outfitters
Hat: H&M
Shoes: Spanish markets
Socks: Primark
Necklace: Urban Outfitters
Watch: Casio

When I saw this adorable little Breton striped smock dress on Asos I couldn't resist snaffling it up. I love wearing dresses on days when I'm feeling a little lazy, because I can just throw them on and look as though I've put more effort into my outfit than I actually have, especially if the dress has detailing like the cut-out shoulders on this one. I don't you about you guys, but I'm slightly (perhaps the biggest understatement of the century) obsessed with the smock dress trend at the moment, and Asos have some beauts on sale right now. This one was in the sale for £15, but I'm also lusting after this (insert the emoji with hearts for eyes here) and a few by Minkpink. I'm pretty certain that in a few weeks my wardrobe will be bursting at the seams with smocks, despite the fact they make me look rather tent-like. I get paid on Friday so I'll have to use every inch of willpower within me (which would actually be more like a millimetre if we were to measure it metrically) to resist the urge to buy them all.

Boots: Dr Martens ("Billie Boot")
Dress: H&M
Necklace: Primark
Headband: Primark
Belt: vintage
Jacket: H&M

Since purchasing this crochet dress months ago it rapidly became one of my favourites, but surprisingly I hadn't yet featured it on my blog until now. It has become somewhat one of my summer staples, and I wouldn't have been able to live without it on my recent holiday to Turkey. At the moment I'm really into pairing really feminine dresses with grungier, more edgy pieces like black boots and a leather jacket, and this dress is ideal for doing so. Speaking of black boots, these ones arrived in the post earlier today: my very first pair of Dr Martens! You may have seen me tweeting about them when I bought them last week, as I was lucky enough to pick them up for a bargain price with a 60% discount via Secret Sales. I'd never previously shopped on this website, but it's definitely worth checking them out and signing up to their mailing list to stay in the loop, as brands are usually only on sale for a few days at a time. I think at the moment they're selling OPI nail polishes for a discounted price, so make sure you have a look! I'll probably live in these boots once I start college in September, although they're more of a winter boot due to the faux shearling lining.

I had a ton of hilarious out-takes from this post, some of which I posted on Twitter. You can take a peek at them by clicking here- feel free to have a giggle at my expense!

August Inspirations

Seeing as my posts have been relatively few and far between lately, I thought I'd quickly put together this post of pictures I've been inspired by lately. We are currently being bombarded with A/W collections already, so I'm on a mission to convince myself it'll stay summer forever, hence the mostly bohemian theme throughout these photos. I promise I'll get back to doing regular outfit posts soon; however recently I've been incredibly busy and in all honesty I feel as though I've lost my "blogging mojo", but I assure you this is temporary. Keep your eyes peeled for more outfit posts from me in the near future!
